Prevention and Education

In 2022, Tudor House will focus efforts on the mental health of adolescents in our community. Suicide remains the 2nd leading cause of death among 10-24 year-olds in Virginia (CDC, 2019). Tudor House is in a position to provide preventative services and education to today’s adolescents, the ones living through this pandemic, so that the adults of the future have a better understanding of mental health, coping resources and strategies. Furthermore, we have a chance to collaborate with this creative and passionate generation!

The Suicide Prevention Council of Roanoke Valley, of which Tudor House is a member, and Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare hosted Youth Mental Health Awareness Month in February 2022. We distributed mental health resources and over 14,000 water bottle stickers to schools throughout the Roanoke Valley. Students used their creativity to advocate for youth mental health through 2 contests. Congratulations to the winners below!

Partnership with Virginia Children’s Theatre

For the past 2 years, Tudor House has partnered with VCT to bring suicide awareness and education to youth through performance art. VCT4TEENS is a powerful medium that allows parents and teens to attend a performance and participate in a “talk back” afterwards with trained volunteer counselors provided by Tudor House. Together, VCT and Tudor House work to normalize conversations about suicide, mental health and community resources.

VCT4TEENS production of APOLOGIES took place February 25-26, 2022.

It was an impactful weekend of three shows, audiences full of parents and teens, and honest discussion with mental health professionals after the play.
