Paul smith

Paul Smith, MSW, is a dedicated Master Level Social Worker with eight years of experience working with children and families in Virginia and West Virginia. He has extensive expertise in Child Protective Services, School Social Work, and Mental Health. Currently, Paul is a full-time School Social Worker for Roanoke County Public Schools, where he focuses on improving student attendance by addressing barriers that prevent children from regularly attending school. He also acts as a liaison between the school system and the community to connect families with essential resources.

In addition to his full-time role, Paul works with Motivate the Game as a Therapeutic Sports Trainer, specializing in supporting at-risk youth facing mental health and behavioral challenges. He is actively working toward obtaining his Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) certification.

Paul earned both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Social Work from Concord University in Athens, WV. During his time at Concord, he played as a left tackle for the Mountain Lions football team on a full athletic scholarship. His achievements include being named to the 2010s All-Decade Football Team and earning All-Mountain East Conference honors three times (2014, 2015, 2016). He started 34 games and was part of the 2014 team that won the Super Region One Championship and the Mountain East Conference Championship, advancing to the Division II National Semifinals.

Paul lives in Roanoke City with his girlfriend Emily, their two children, a dog, and two cats. He currently serves as Treasurer for the Roanoke Regional School Social Work Association. In his free time, he enjoys listening to music and audiobooks, playing video games, traveling, and practicing meditation.
